Most people think that China’s national statutory holidays refers simply to the Spring Festival/May Day/National Day/New Year’s Day and others. This is correct, but incomplete. In addition to the holidays mentioned above, national statutory holidays also include holidays applicable to some citizens.
For example, Women’s Day offers a half-day holiday to all women , but not applicable to men.
The half-day holiday for women is derived from Article 3 of the “National New Year’s Day and Memorial Day Holidays” promulgated by the State Council, which stipulates that Women’s Day is a holiday for some citizens.
According to document No. No. 18 of the Office of Labor and Social Affairs, during the holiday period when some citizens are on holiday, employees who participate in social or unit celebrations and work as usual should be paid by the unit, but not overtime.
If the holiday coincides with a Saturday or Sunday and the unit arranges for employees to work overtime, it shall pay the overtime wages in accordance with the law.
