On July 4, the State Internet Information Office (hereinafter referred to as the “State Cyberspace Administration of China”) issued a notice stating that the “Didi Chuxing” app seriously violated relevant laws and regulations in the collection and usage of personal information . The State Cyberspace Administration of China notified major app stores to remove the “Didi Travel” app.
The department has requested Didi Travel Technology Co., Ltd. to strictly rectify existing problems and effectively protect users’ personal information.
In response, Didi stated that it will firmly implement the relevant requirements of the state and has already suspended new user registration as from July 3 . Users who have downloaded the “Didi Travel” App can use it normally, and passengers’ travel and driver’s orders will not be affected. Didi will make serious rectifications and continue to improve risk prevention awareness and technical capabilities, user privacy and data security, network security risks, and provide users with safe and convenient services.
According to relevant data , there are currently 7,448 companies related to “online car-hailing” in China . The number of registered online car-hailing companies reached a peak in 2019 at 2,913, an increase of 33.9% over the previous year.
Among the more than 7,000 online car-hailing companies across the country, “Didi Travel” app undoubtedly stands out as the “boss” .
There are more than 31 million registered car owners and drivers on the Didi platform . Didi provides over 550 million users with comprehensive travel and transportation services in a variety of situations, with an average daily order volume of as much as 30 million.
